Trovare lavoro in Italia come archeologo è impresa ardua; non si vuole qui affermare che all’estero sia facile ottenere un contratto però, a giudicare dalle offerte di lavoro reperibili sui siti web delle varie compagnie del settore, sembra ci siano più possibilità.
In questo articolo presentiamo alcune offerte di lavoro provenienti dall’Inghilterra e dall’Irlanda. Inutile sottolineare come l’ottima conoscenza dell’inglese sia un prerequisito fondamentale (anche solo per leggere le offerte ;).

Site Assistants are required to works on sites in the Leeds & Sheffield areas, for immediate start. Pay is on an hourly rate, based upon 35 hours per week. Additional travel time is also paid for some sites. Experience of a range of sites, including urban and industrial sites, would be beneficial. ARCUS will provide transport to all sites, from Sheffield.

A Project Officer is required to organise and undertake projects for the County Archaeology Service. This represents an excellent opportunity to gain a wide range of experience in commercial projects and in heritage management within a small local authority based team. You will have significant experience in a commercial archaeological environment, including the preparation of project reports, supervision of teams of staff and implementation of safe systems of work. The ability to work accurately to deadlines and within project budgets is essential.
An annual renewable contract to 31.3.09 is offered in the first instance (subject to standard local authority probation).

Aldgate, East London
L – P : Archaeology are currently looking for an Archaeologist/IT Specialist to take care of the site GIS, survey, and database for an ongoing excavation in Aldgate. During the fieldwork stage of the project the candidate will work at the site office working with the field archaeologists to implement and refine the recording system. Tasks will include digitising context plans, basic site survey, collating survey data, overseeing data entry, and exporting data to the project website (www.lparchaeology.com/prescot).
The successful applicant will be working under supervision of a senior member of staff. The role is well suited to applicants looking to gain a better understanding of GIS applications in commercial archaeology, learn basic survey techniques, and become familiar with the ARK digital recording system. Good IT skills and demonstrable previous experience with GIS are essential. A good understanding of survey methods and single context recording preferred.
The initial contract is 3 months, with the project expected to continue for 6 months with the potential for post-ex work.

IRLANDA
- Project Archaeologist
Achill Archaeological Field School
Archaeology Centre, Dooagh, Achill Island, Co. Mayo, Ireland
Licensed Project Archaeologist required to oversee excavations and supervision and training of undergraduate students in archaeological methods and theory. A knowledge of surveying using a Theodolite and/or EDM would be an advantage. The Project Archaeologist would also be expected to provide weekly lectures to students on aspects of Irish archaeology and supervise weekly field trips to local sites and monuments.

avevo cercato offerte anche in Francia pero’ la mia conoscenza scarsissima della lingua non mi ha permesso di ottenere risultati apprezzabili

Sono laureata in preistoria e sto preparendo un dottorato in Beni Culturali, anche io avevo cercato offerte in Francia ma volesse fare un’esperienza prema in Italia, ma non ottenuto risultati apprezzabili

Bisogna andarsene da un posto come l’Italia, dove il nostro mestiere è considerato quasi un fastidio per la società; per non parlare dei tipi di contratto, la totale assenza di un qualsiasi albo e soprattutto gli stipendi a dir poco da fame ( un ruspista si prende 3000 euro al mese; una donna delle pulizie dai 10 ai 20 euro all’ora…). Ma chi siamo? lo scarto dello scarto? in più i vari governi che si succedono noiosamente tagliano i fondi per la ricerca… non vorrei sembrare mio nonno ma mi viene da dire: “.. ma dove andremo a finire?”…… in Irlanda! Perchè no, portiamo un pò della nostra storia in giro per il mondo, forse , prima o poi qualcuno ci apprezzerà! costy, archeologa convinta
